Chibuku Road to Fame 2022 winners, Dapuraunanzva Arts Ensemble received a timely boost from Mutare-born businessman David Munowenyu, who pledged to pay for their monthly food and refreshments.
Dapuraunanzva Arts Ensemble won the Manicaland provincial competition last week and is set to compete in the national finals on July 27 in Masvingo.
The group’s leader, Kiven Simomondo said they are ready to upset their rivals, adding that Munowenyu’s gesture came at the right time.
“We have been practicing for two years now since we won the 2022 competition. We could not defend the title,” he said.
“We are back again this year and we do not doubt that we will take the first prize.”
Munowenyu said the group is playing a pivotal role in promoting the country’s arts and culture.
“It is important that we continue entertaining people with our traditional music as we pass it to future generations.
“However, the competition is not just about dancing, it also promotes the supremacy of our culture, that is why I am helping them,” said Munowenyu.
He said since he grew up in Sakubva, Mutare, offering a helping hand to the group is just like helping his brothers and sisters.
