Thousands mourn Evangelist Chiweshe

Chiweshe.
The evangelist died on his way to Parirenyatwa Hospital as a result of a kidney failure on Tuesday.
He was 65.
People from all walks of life, including pastors from other denominations gathered at Mt Camel Assembly in Unit P, Seke, Chitungwiza for a church service.

The church was filled to capacity and some mourners had to find places outside.
His body viewing took more than two hours to allow everyone a chance to bid him farewell.
Police escort was at hand later in the afternoon to accompany the body for burial at Warren Hills Cemetery.
Some people openly wept while others ululated to celebrate the life of a man who served the AFM ministry for 23 years.

Evangelist Chiweshe’s body was taken to his home in Concession on Thursday evening where it lay in state.
Hundreds of people from nearby farms, villages and Concession township thronged the Chiweshe homestead and spent the night celebrating his life.
Addressing mourners in Chitungwiza yesterday, Evangelist Chiweshe’s widow Tabeth, said she had lost a “shield”.

She chronicled how she met the evangelist when he was still a young man, before their wedding in 1971.
“Even when he was still a young man you could see that he was a God-fearing man because whatever he did had God in it,” said Mrs Chiweshe.
“He was the father of my children, my pastor, friend and my father at the same time. He was a gift and shield for me from every trouble, meaning he fulfilled everything expected from a husband.

“In happiness and times of sorrow, we were together but the most important thing I am happy with is that he gave birth to many assemblies and preachers.”
AFM deputy international president and Living Waters Theological Seminary principal Dr Constantine Murefu said the country had lost a “true leader.”
“I met him in 1968,” he said.

“For the time we have been together, he showed great leadership qualities and that is the main reason why we never quarreled with him.
“Some of us are not here to mourn but to celebrate the life of a true leader whose leadership has managed to create thousands of Christians in the country.”
Elder Fareday Ndoro, who deputised Evangelist Chiweshe at the assembly level, said he was “a man of unity”.

He paid tribute to Evangelist Chiweshe for championing the construction of Mt Camel Secondary School in Chitungwiza.
“He did everything in consultation with us and that is why it was easy to build the school which is now helping hundreds of residents in the area,” said Elder Ndoro.
“He supported us in everything and what he cherished most was unity.”

Evangelist Chiweshe groomed other well-known preachers including Reverend Oliver Chipunza, the president of the Inter-Denominational School of Deliverance and Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa of the United Family International, who also attended the burial.
Evangelist Chiweshe was among the founding members of the Anointed Ambassadors for Christ Inter-denominational, a group that held crusades locally and internationally.

He was known for sermons recorded on DVDs, cassettes and CDs which include “Baba Vebenzi”, “Gaka Hariputirwe Pamusika” and “Tsano Handeyi”. Evangelist Chiweshe is survived by his wife Tabeth and three children.
