They say a prophet is an intermediary, a spokesman, one who speaks and acts on behalf of God. But MC Prophet is not one of the spiritual prophets that you see touching people’s foreheads uttering a prayer as they fall to the ground.

Neither does he tell people their future or guess their passport numbers or a person’s age as the Zimbabwean proliferating ‘‘prophets’’ often do. This one is only found in nightclubs holding his microphone making people jump to music booming from the loud speakers and sending them falling onto their beds after a session with him throughout the night.

Sweithen Tinaapi Mapiye, a seasoned single 28-year-old gig club master of events is famously known as MC Prophet because of his unbelievable prophetic musical selections. Since his childhood, the now man has always been a prophet of joy for party lovers.

“I have always loved music and especially music with meaning in my life and the current affairs in people’s lives is what touches my heart the most,” he said.

Since his adolescent years, his friends decided to Christian him the prophet because behind the closed door in his room he always opened his wide selection of songs and came up with a playlist that always related to what they were going through in life. His music selection spoke to them.

The young MC would then take his compilation and had it played by the DJ’s at Passa Passa street parties either in Chitungwiza, Mbare or Mabvuku. He improved his skill by watching international MC’s Chris Goldfinger of BBC radio, Ricky Trooper from Jamaica and lots more online and on television.

He later extended his talent the Open Mic Show at the Book Café to later be discovered by the Red Fox Hotel and Entertainment boss Robert Zee Zhuwao in 2006. Under the Red Fox umbrella they hosted Friday night gigs with Judgement Yard moving the event to Saturday then settling it to Sunday night making it their busiest and most popular day of the week back in the day. If you weren’t ‘‘kumaRasta’’, at the rastas, you were missing out on a sacred day of musical worship with MC Prophet on the altar. To further entertain people, he then created mixtapes for his numerous followers distributing them on discs and feeding them online and sharing the links.

“Sadly we are also a prey to pirates who sell our CDs in the streets. It has been hard for us. For 50 cents, a person gets someone’s work that they have worked hard for. For decades the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi, Mono Mukundu, Tariro neGitare or Peter Moyo who is carrying over his father’s legacy they pirate it and and sell it for peanuts with the ignorance of how much was invested in the final product in terms of work,” he lamented.

“After putting together the music on the controller mixing and blending it resulting in a mixtape, I then buy 500+ CDs sleeves which is a self-sponsored project that I take for printing and then take it to accredited distributors.”

He went on to say that for him and his colleagues DJs Stash, Doc and Simmz quality is a virtue that they are always striving to deliver the best that they rehearse his playlist before a show just to leave the party people happy.

“As an entertainer I have branded myself and labelled myself as MC Prophet Worldwide. I am my own competition I do not compete with others. It’s all about maintaining the game and leaving no room for mistakes as we target international platforms,” said MC Prophet.

“So far I have had an opportunity to show off my skills at Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), Harare International Carnival and the Lake July Festival performing for people from all walks of life so I am looking forward to this years’ events.”

With Gold finger he toured Bulawayo, Mutare, Bindura and was also involved in the Kenyan Black Supremacy, Popcaan, Assassin, Tony Rebel and Mavado’s shows.

His talent has also taken him to South Africa where he was invited by President Chiky to be the guest MC in two of shows featuring Hwindi President at Club Zimba Port Elizabeth in April 2017. For the past four years he has been working on his soon to be released Afro Reggae Dancehall fusion album. He says he has taken that long because he believes that for his work to be perfect it has to be strategic and he is also working on distributing it to influential individuals in the business and marketing field.

On the album he sings about life, love and partying. These days he is at the Long Chen based Club 1+1 every Friday but still remains the chief MC for Redfox Sound. If you want a blessing of conscious music, perhapd MC Prophet is the best person to give you a one-on-one session!
