Stakeholders in the public and private sectors have been urged to participate in climate change mitigation and adaptation in order to safeguard human lives, livestock and wildlife, as well as attain Vision 2030.

The call was made by Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri during the official opening of an Inter-Ministerial Climate Change Dialogue which was held in Harare on Friday.

The dialogue runs under the theme: “Climate Change: Everyone’s Responsibility.”

Minister Shiri said that it was important for all Government ministries and the private sector to be well-informed about climate change.

He said everyone should understand their role in the unfolding response and strategically position the sectors they are responsible for.

“Nationally, climate change has the potential to derail the attainment of Vision 2030 through devastation from extreme weather events as rightly demonstrated this year by Cyclone Idai and the 2018-2019 poor rainfall season.

“Climate change is a cross-cutting issue affecting all socio-economic development sectors.

“This means all line ministries have to integrate climate change into their policy, planning and budgeting frameworks,” he said.
