SWISS handball coach Rolf Haussener is expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday to lead the national Under-21 men’s camp this week at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex.

Players are expected to go into camp on Wednesday and the programme will run until Sunday.

Zimbabwe Handball Federation secretary-general Edison Chirowodza said Haussener is expected to take charge of the camp and will also lead the selection for an Under-18 girls team on Saturday.

He has been working with the men’s side for some time now together with local coaches as part of the vision 2024 project by ZHF.

The project is targeting the development of national teams and will now include the females’ team.

“He is coming tomorrow (Wednesday). For boys, engagement with players didn’t stop because of Covid-19 because we were using an online platform. His coming is probably to continue from where they left through their online engagements.

“They are going into camp on Wednesday and train from Thursday up to Sunday. He gets to meet and interact with the players one on one, assess their physical fitness, and continue with the technical and tactical training.

“With the ladies team, it’s just a selection. We are going to have trials and he will be leading the trials on Saturday,” said Chirowodza.

The national federation is targeting the Under-18s for the girls’ team and Saturday’s selection is a continuation of a process that is already underway.
