Suspected wife killer goes into hiding

Mashonaland West Bureau
A ZVIMBA man who struck his estranged wife to death with a metal object after finding her in bed with his uncle has gone into hiding.

The alleged affair and marital problems are said to have led to the couple separating sometime in 2018.

On the fateful day, Clever Gara of Gara Village in Murombedzi went to Kerina Matarutse’s lodgings in Chinhoyi’s Mapako suburb and found his uncle Bernard Mapadza (67) present. He allegedly indicated that he wanted to charge his phone and left before returning several hours later to collect his phone as if everything was normal.

The two had a confrontation a month earlier when Mapadza visited Kerina (37)  in Mapako and spent some days, which did not go down well with Gara.

When Gara returned to the house at around 10pm armed with a spirit level, he forced the door open only to find the two in bed.

He attacked Mapadza and a fight ensued, but he managed to overpower him. The enraged Gara dragged Kerina outside and started striking her on the head several times until she passed out and he fled, leaving her lying in a pool of blood.

Mapadza reported the matter at Chinhoyi Central Police Station.

Kerina’s body was taken to Chinhoyi Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police have since launched a manhunt for Mapadza, who is expected to be charged with murder.
