ALL roads will be leading to Dzivaresekwa Stadium on Saturday for the 12th Chipaz Bhora Tournament aimed at raising funds for charity.

The potentially explosive musical and football extravaganza, is a brainchild of Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions.

This year’s edition starts at 9am till very late. According to event organisers, the first match of the day, will be played at 9am pitting Zimpapers FC against Christ Embassy FC.

After the opener, UZ Legends will take on Drunkards FC. A grudge match between Zim dancehall artistes and their Sungura counterparts will be the match of the day.

After the main match, attention shifts to music with HKD boss Freeman being the star attraction. Speaking to The Herald Arts, event organiser Chimbodza said it was all systems go.

“The 12th edition of our tournament returns on the 1st of April. “It’s indeed a special day for our stable as we are marking yet another milestone this year. “It’s funny how time flies but we are happy that the initiative has been embraced by many people since its inception.

“We urge fans to show up in numbers and support this initiative, which is aimed at raising funds for the less privileged,” he said.

Chimodza said the event is a bit special for Freeman who will be marking his return to the ghetto, which gave him fame.

“As we indicated during the build up to the event, Freeman will be marking his return to Dzivaresekwa where he is set to celebrate his two gongs that he won at the National Arts Merit Awards. “In the afternoon, he will mingle with them and later hold a show in the evening.

“It’s going to be a family affair where proceeds will be channelled towards charity,” he said.

To ensure they give fans variety, socialites comprising Mahwindo, Madam Boss, Mai Titi, Lorraine Guyo, Joey Nyikadzino are set to take part in the event.

Not to be outdone is controversial preacher, Prophet Talent Madungwe who is the invited as guests. Known for his weird predictions, Madungwe will be among guests set to meet fans.

“Many people only read about these popular figures in the press but they are yet to meet them in person. “It will be a plus for Dzivaresekwa residents to meet some of the popular figures on social media and have selfie moments with them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Christ Embassy — one of the sponsors — has pledged to partner Chipaz Promotions for his charity drive.

The church started to support Chimbodza when they bailed out struggling musicians with food hampers at the height of the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

“They have always supported my initiatives and I am really humbled that the church has realised the good work we are doing. We will keep on doing charity work in partnership with the church,” he said.

Some of the sponsors supporting the initiative include Remington Gold, Bike Delivery, Luxe interior, Autohitch Motors and Primus Energy.
