Zanu-PF Marondera Central candidate Cde Cleopas Kundiona has engaged some Government departments in a bid to resolve a three-year dispute between Marondera Town Council and residents over housing stands.

In 2015, thousands of Marondera residents were made to pay amounts ranging between $500 and $1 500 to council in the run-up to the Marondera Central by election.

Beneficiaries were set to get land in Elmswood with the assistance of the then candidate Cde Lawrence Katsiru.

It later emerged that the land belonged to a private company called, Swandev.

The two parties have been locked in a dispute over the past three years with several meetings ending in deadlock.

Cde Kundiona assured party supporters and residents that he had started engagements with various departments to solve the land dispute.

“We want to assure everyone that the land dispute will be a thing of the past. We have approached the local authority and relevant Government departments to officially secure the land,” he said.

“Our residential minister is also in the picture and as Zanu-PF we want to assure you that you will to get your stands.”

Recently, Provincial Affairs Minister Cde David Musabayana said a resolution with council and the owner had been reached.

The affected residents have over the past months vowed to illegally occupy the piece of land with some mooting legal action.

Cde Kundiona said the Zanu-PF administrator was also in process of looking for another piece of land for residential stands.
