SPORT Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe president, Russel Maradza Mhiribidi, says the country has a lot of untapped sporting talent which can only be harnessed through full stakeholder participation.

Mhiribidi, who received rave international reviews after delivering multiple sport management lectures at the West Virginia University in the United States recently, said this ahead of the second edition of the three-day annual sports management autumn camp which opens on April 11 in Kariba.

Over 300 delegates drawn from higher and tertiary institutions are expected to attend the symposium where a host of local and international gurus are scheduled to address on varying sporting topics.
“The second edition of the SLIZ annual autumn camp will be held in Kariba from April 11 to 13.

“We are expecting plus or minus 300 delegates at the symposium. Participants will be drawn from higher and tertiary institutions which is a very key area in which sport can be developed.

“We have a lot in terms of untapped talent in the country. We unfortunately fail to make significant strides in almost all sport codes.
“This is apparently because we are not doing enough to scout and develop the talent.

“The problem we have from the grassroots is that we are only concerned about aiming to do well in sport without doing sport well.

“That is one of the major reasons why we find a lot of cheating cases at the grassroots level but at the end of the day it is sport that suffers,” he said.
