DYNAMOS coach Paulo Jorge Silva says he was shocked by the level of indiscipline at the Glamour Boys and his players will have to adapt to his strict standards of professionalism, on and off the pitch, or look for a job elsewhere. The Portuguese mentor yesterday said it was important that the Glamour Boys adapt to his European style of management, where professionalism is the key word, for the country’s biggest football club to reap results from their association with him.

He said instilling discipline among his players was key. “The first two weeks I can tell you it was very bad. I have 43 years and I have never seen this in my life. But every time we have got to improve and I believe if you work with new people, by the end of one month a person starts to have discipline,” said Silva.

“It’s like this, if you get a coach from outside it’s not the coach who needs to adapt to you. You need adapt to the coach. “The moment I came here I needed to adapt to the country, to the club, to the fans, to everyone but in terms of the games and organisation you need to adapt to mine. Me and (assistant coach Lloyd) Mutasa, we talk together and organise.

“But I think this year it’s going to be tough because there is a lot to do but I have the support from the president (Kenny Mubaiwa). He wants to clean up, so I will clean.” Silva has been mandated to restore pride at the Glamour Boys by rclaiming the league championship which they surrendered to Chicken Inn last year.

He said he needs the independence to do things his way but already there have been voices coming from the Glamour Boys camp accusing the coach of being heavy handed in the way he treats his players. Barely a month into his job, a number of players have been fined for various offences which in the past could have gone unpunished.

Silva’s disciplinarian side was also on show yesterday when the Glamour Boys played two friendly matches against Division One sides ZRP Football Club and WhaWha. Players who made careless blunders had to perform sit-ups immediately on the pitch as punishment.

Some dissenting voices feel he is going too far after he had an unpleasant exchange of words with goalkeepers’ coach Gift Muzadzi yesterday. Dynamos featured two teams yesterday and Silva gave almost all his players a run except for striker Takesure Chinyama, who is injured.

Defender Sydney Linyama was the only senior player in the side that played in the goalless draw against ZRP as Silva threw into the starting line-up a host of the fringe players and newboys like Jimmy Dzingai, Dominic Mukandi, Valentine Ndaba and goalkeeper Ashley Reyners.

Their juniors Peace Makaha, Brett Amidu and Musa Madhiri also started. The team that played the second game and beat WhaWha 4-0 was much stronger as it included the majority of first team players from last season. DeMbare got their goals from Walter Mukanga, who headed home early into the game from a cross by Obey Mwerahari.

DeMbare were almost flawless and Farai Mupasiri then doubled their lead in the 17th minute before Rodreck Mutuma rounded the goalkeeper to make it three just after the half-hour mark. Utility player Godknows Murwira completed the rout soon after the half-time break.

DeMbare could have added another from the spot when Mukanga was upended inside the box midway through the second half. Mutuma and Valentine Ndaba botched the penalty when they tried the trick performed by Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez last week as alert WhaWha defenders moved in swiftly to thwart the attempt when Mutuma had teed up his teammate from the spot.

Silva was not happy with that and ordered Mutuma to do sit-ups as punishment. “I don’t care if the players do it but you must practise this first. But you haven’t practised it yet in the penalties, that is what I said to Rodreck,” said Silva. “If you want to do this, you can do it but you have to train for it first because if you don’t train it doesn’t work.

“But it’s good a win for me and the boys are a bit relieved and we have to move forward. “We have 30 players and some need more time to adapt to what I want but the second team was more than ready. They played almost to (the standards) I want but we have to improve more.

“I am happy with the scoreline. We scored four but we could have gotten more. Of course, (Whawha) it’s a team in the second league but it was a good training for us.” Silva said they are still expecting their Brazilian players to join them this week after their arrival was delayed at the weekend.

Dynamos, who are keen to beef up their strike-force, had wanted to feature the foreign players in yesterday’s games as part of their trials. The Glamour Boys are also set to sign a Nigerian midfielder who is part of the West African giants’ Olympic side and he is expected to arrive in the country this week.

The player has been in Mozambique where he was set to join Liga Muculmana but his handlers believe he will have a better platform to develop at DeMbare. Silva also wants two more local junior players to fill up his slots for the five Under-20 players as required by the Premier Soccer League.
