THE Second Republic, under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, values the role of the churches due to their close interactions with grassroots communities, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said yesterday.

Addressing congregants during a church service by the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church in Harare’s Warren Park D suburb, which coincided with the visit of its leader, Bishop Washington Mugodhi, Minister Mutsvangwa said the President’s regular meetings with church leaders was a recognition of the important role the churches play in communities.

Bishop Mugodhi gained full control of the church after the Supreme Court ruled in his favour following a dispute with Bishop Tonnie Sigauke’s faction that had been raging on since the death of Bishop Tadewu Mugodhi in 2019.

“Our President values the role played by the church in our communities because he knows that you are the custodians of the people.

“That is why he regularly meets with church leaders as you are the ones who deal with their concerns and needs on a daily basis,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

“The church and the State are two sides of the same coin and no economic development can happen without the involvement of the church.”

She said Government appreciated the prayers and spiritual guidance received from the church and it was important that the two institutions continue to work cordially for the benefit of the country and its citizens.

The Minister also thanked the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church for supporting Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa under the Vapostori for ED banner ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections and urged them to register to vote in their numbers.

She urged the congregants to take advantage of the economic empowerment initiatives being implemented by the Government, especially for the benefit of women and youths.

“The President has an open door policy and feel free to bring your concerns to him; he is a listening President,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

Bishop Mugodhi thanked the Minister for attending their church service and promised their support ahead of next year’s elections.

“As a church we have made our choice of standing behind Zanu PF and the President because, not only is it our constitutionally guaranteed right to do so but even the scriptures compel us to support our leaders because they are installed in those positions by God and it’s only him who can remove them,” said Bishop Mugodhi.

He also acknowledged President Mnangagwa’s openness and praised the peace and stability prevailing in the country.

Bishop Mugodhi also commended the President for the infrastructure developments and empowerment initiatives being carried out across the country, saying they would improve the lives of ordinary people.
