THE Government using devolution funds, has built a block of two science laboratories for Maramba High School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Ward 6, as the Second Republic works around the clock to improve learning environments for learners across the country.

In line with Education 5.0, it is critical for schools to have science laboratories where practical experiments can be conducted for those doing science subjects.

Building of the junior and senior laboratories at Maramba High School has brought relief to learners and teachers who have been facing challenges when it comes to science subjects.

Learners and staff who spoke to The Herald during the tour of the laboratories by Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Zvataida Rural District Council thanked the Second Republic and their local authority for the development at the school.

The science labs are to be commissioned soon.

Maramba High School deputy headmaster Mr Artwell Mandala thanked Government for availing devolution funds and the council for using the funds for the construction of science laboratories at the school.

“As a school we have benefited science laboratories from devolution funds through our council. We are very grateful.

“It was hard for us and our learners especially those who are doing pure sciences. Now we have science laboratories here and we are now competing with some schools across the province.

“Our wish for our learners to excel and maybe become doctors, nurses and engineers. We are thankful to Government and our local authorities for this project,” he said.

Maramba High School learner Casper Marombedza, who is also a junior Member of Parliament for Maramba Pfungwe Constituency said Government has done a commendable job by availing funds which are being used to develop schools across the province.

He said the establishment of science laboratories at Maramba High School is a step in the right direction as it dovetails with the Education 5.0 concept.

“I want to extend my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe for devolution funds which have seen the establishment of a science laboratory at our school, now it will be easy for learners for their science subjects practicals.

“I also want to thank our council for using devolution funds towards improving our education here. “

Elvis Madziva, another learner said the establishment of science laboratories will enable him to realise his dream.

“The school has been using some classrooms as science laboratories, it was bad, but now all that will be over and I am happy because I am that learner who is passionate and good in sciences. I am now sure that I will do my Advanced Level at this school.

“So I just want to commend authorities for this.”

Fadzai Hodzi, another learner, said the science laboratory has come at the right time for them at Maramba High School.

“First and foremost, I want to thank our council for using devolution funds to establish a science laboratory at our school.

“This is important for us who are doing science subjects. We will not have any challenges in carrying out our experiments in a proper laboratory.”

Perpetua Chiyangwa, who is also a learner at the school thanked everyone who made the establishment of the laboratories a success.

“It is now easy to do science subjects. I would like to thank Government and our local authority for the science laboratories. It has been hard but now we are happy.”

Acting chief executive officer for UMP Zvataida RDC, Mr Masimba Goustino, commended the Government for availing devolution funds which as a council, they channelled towards establishment of the science laboratory block at Maramba High School.

“This lab is a product of the devolution funds. We are using devolution funds to improve everyone’s lives and here at Maramba High School, we saw a need of a science lab and we funded its construction.

“We are also focusing on the establishment of health institutions across the district. We want to thank communities in this district for assisting in various ways as we develop our district and contribute to the achievement of Vision 2030.”
