The Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) has applauded member states for continued cooperation in investigating cross border crime, capacity building and human resource development. SARPCCO was formed to facilitate cooperation at regional level in order to address crimes that were not only threatening peace and tranquillity in the region, but also impacting negatively on the socio-economic and political front.

The organisation has a membership of 16 countries. SARPCCO chairperson and inspector-general of Zambia police Mr Kakoma Kanganja last week said as police chiefs in the region, they were excited over the continued growth of the organisation.

He was addressing 26 officers who graduated at the SARPCCO Centre of Excellence after they underwent a one-and-a-half year Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership course.

Some of the officers were from Namibia, South Africa, Malawi and the Kingdom of eSwatini.

“It is indeed gratifying to note that the organisation continues to enjoy mutual and multilateral co-operation, particularly in the investigation of cross border crimes, capacity building and human resource development, among other regional initiatives,” Insp-Gen Kanganja said.

SARPCCO Centre of Excellence principal Senior Assistant Commissioner Wonder Tembo said after implementing strategies, criminals on the other hand will react and in many instances heighten the sophistry of illicit activities.

“In the premise, the police as the foot soldiers in the maintenance of law and order, are thus required by citizens to be proactive, diligent and effective in eradicating all manner of crime in society,” he said.
