PROFESSIONAL golfer Ryan Cairns praised the inaugural JM Busha golf tournament, which was part of the 2018 Peace Pledge Games, held at Chapman on Africa Day.

The tournament saw golf sensation Scott Vincent coming all the way from Asia to take part in the R54 000 purse tournament.

Cairns, who partnered Zambian Madalisto Muthiya, was crowned the overall winner having carded 73 and 66.

He paid tribute to businessman Joseph Busha for sponsoring the golf tournament.

“I’m very thankful to JM Busha for hosting this event and for making it possible for the local guys to showcase their game,’’ he said.

“You know, I’m asked all the time because I’m on the Sunshine Tour, why we don’t win more and the fact is the great players are always in constant competition.’’

The Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association president, Gary Thompson, and sponsor Busha spoke highly of the tournament which was part of three events for the celebration of the founding of the African Union on May 25 1963.

Proceeds from the event are set to be channelled towards funding peace building initiatives.

An ultra-marathon was also held in Harare on the same day while the capital also hosted a cycling event.
