Listed hospitality company, Rainbow Tourism Group, yesterday donated goods worth $7 500 to various organisations in Kadoma through its Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre. The goods, which comprised curtains, sheets as well as drying and bathing towels, were handed over to Tariro Children’s Home, Rimuka Old People’s Home, Kadoma General Hospital and Central Police Station.

The group’s corporate communications and innovations manager Mrs Pride Khumbula said the donations were targeting needy people.

“Some of the donations were made through requests while other beneficiaries were identified by staff at Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre,” she said.

“We then chipped in as RTG to assist Kadoma General Hospital, as well as the children’s and old people’s home. The police requested for curtains and as one of our major partners we decided to assist them.”

Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre general manager Mrs Paula January said the donations amounted to about $7 500.
“It is not a once off thing, but we will now be supporting these organisations regularly and this is just the beginning,” she said.

“It is also not just about material things, but we will also be visiting and interacting with people from the children and old people’s home from time to time.”

Tariro Children’s Home director Mrs Pheobelin Magama applauded RTG for the donation.
“We are more than grateful to have local companies partnering us,” she said.

“At first we used to shun them, but after interacting with them we saw that they are very free and welcoming.”
The children’s home has 19 children.

Kadoma Aged Benevolent Rimuka representative Mr Macdonald Chimidzi also expressed gratitude for the donation to the home, which has 15 inmates.

“The old people’s home had no sheets, we last received a donation sometime in 2006, and the situation was terrible for us. Thanks to RTG for the timely donation,” he said.

Kadoma General Hospital human resources officer Mr Chamunorwa Machona also applauded RTG.
“Thank you for the donation,” he said. “It will go a long way in assisting our patients. We are more than grateful.”

RTG is also making a meaningful contribution to society through investing in sustainable initiatives, which benefit and empower the communities in which it operates.

One of the initiatives is the development of nutritional gardens at three of its hotels in partnership with a local non-profit making organisation, Community Capacity Building Initiative Centre for Africa.
The project was piloted by Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre.

The initiative is in line with the Government’s effort to promote food and nutrition security for all people and all times in Zimbabwe, particularly among the most vulnerable people as prescribed by the Food and Nutrition Security Policy launched in 2013.
