Robbers raid service station, house and school

TWELVE armed robbers raided a service station in Banket, a house and a school in Harare and got away with over US$13 000 cash, R3 500, a gun and various electrical gadgets in separate incidents at the weekend.

No arrests have been made and investigations are in progress.

Police said in Banket, the incident occurred on Sunday at Mac Morgans Service Station when three robbers who were armed with two pistols raided the premises and disarmed two security guards of a .38 Rossi Revolver before tying them with shoelaces.

“The suspects stole US$5 200, two cellphones and the .38 Rossi Revolver,” national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

In another incident, five armed robbers raided a house in New Tafara, Mabvuku on Saturday and attacked one complainant.

They stole five cellphones, 20 pairs of shoes, three watches, a laptop, US$5 300 and R3 500 before disappearing.

“Meanwhile, police are investigating another robbery case which occurred at Riddle Ridge, Harare on March 19 at around 11pm where four unknown suspects who were armed with machetes, iron bars and stones attacked security guards at a school before they broke into the administration block where they stole a 42-inch television set, a cellphone and US$ 2 770,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.
