Two men from Chitungwiza, who robbed another person of his money, cellphone and other valuables while he was on his way to work, have been slapped with a combined four-year jail term.

Ronald Chiduku (31) and Tarry Tendeziso (age not given) were charged with robbery when they appeared before Chitungwiza resident magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini.

The pair was convicted after a full trial.

Chiduku will serve three effective years after the court found that he had two previous convictions, while Tendeziso was sentenced to an effective one-year jail term.

Initially, Tendeziso was jailed for two years, but one year was suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

The prosecutor, Mr Tatenda Mukatera proved that on March 12 at around 5am, Desire Mhembere was on his way to Jambanja Flea Market, where he works when he came across three robbers.

The third one, who is still at large jumped, at Mhembere and held him by the waist while Chiduku and Tendeziso pulled out knives and demanded his valuables.

The robber, who is still sat large, then unlawfully took Mhembere’s satchel containing cash amounting to RTGS $180, white garment, rub medicine, spectacles and a traditional drink.

He also surrendered his Mobicel cellphone valued at $80 due to fear.

He reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the two.
