HARARE Basketball Association have confirmed everything is now in place for the commencement of their 2018-19 season which has attracted Black Rhinos to join as newcomers.

The league will witness no less than 836 games from September 22 to April next year. HBA competitions commissioner, Gideon Chikopa, confirmed the developments yesterday.

“We had challenges in the previous season and l am very optimistic the season before us is different and exciting. There is so much potential in this league and with unity of purpose l see the league becoming even bigger,” he said.

The HBA Men’s A League has 12 teams, which include Foxes, JBC, Harare City Hornets, HLF Raiders, Cheetahs, Arcadia Bucs, Leopards Academy, Hustlers, Cameo, Glen View Rockets, Black Rhinos and UZ Stars. Chikopa said Black Rhinos were the newcomers in the Men’s A League.

The women now have a combined A and B League. “UZ Stars survived relegation into the women’s B League through play-offs. “They had to shrug off competition from strugglers Herentals who were demoted to the B League in a play-off that featured Assassins and Galaticos who were fighting their way into the A League,” Chikopa said.
