Farmers have been urged to revert to cotton growing and heed information by Agritex officers to achieve high yields. Cottco business manager Mr Stenford Mahambire said this last Friday during the commissioning of a borehole drilled by his organisation at Sasikaritanda High School in Gokwe.

“Cotton growers should take advantage of the technical assistance imparted to them by agronomists and Agritex officers. You have the necessary resources at your disposal, agricultural inputs, technical advice and ideal weather conditions.

“If you apply the knowledge afforded by these experts, your yields will increase and you will reap the benefits. Treat cotton production as a business, it pays,” he said.

Gokwe is one of the biggest cotton producing areas in the country. Despite the fact that cotton earns the country a significant amount of foreign currency, production has in recent years gone down due to low prices being offered as traders follow international cotton prices.

Zanu-PF National Assembly member Gokwe-Gumunyu Cde Melania Mahiya urged cotton farmers to take advantage of next season to raise the crop’s level of production.
