THE Harare Residents Trust (HRT) says it has received complaints from residents that are fed up with electing visiting councillors who immediately relocate to western suburbs where they are allocated stands once elected into office.

The trust’s director Precious Shumba urged residents to scrutinise candidates for ward councilors carefully before voting for them.

“The City of Harare has a policy of allocating residential and business stands to their elected councillors. These councillors then disappear from the communities that elected them into office, disconnecting themselves from the electorate.

“Residents want locally available and accessible councillors.”
