THE African Union Sports Council Region 5, in collaboration with the Association For International Sport for All, have introduced an exciting online Certified Leadership Course in Sport for All.
The AUSC Region 5 comprise of Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This is the first time Region 5 are introducing an online learning platform, countering the crippling effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic that has literally brought sport to an agonising standstill over the past three months.
The course is meant to run over a period of eight weeks beginning on July 15 up to September 11, 2020. This CLC is an internationally accredited TAFISA course which equips the Sport for All practitioners with the relevant skills and competencies to assist them to effectively plan and deliver community-based sport for all programmes.
The 32-hour online course has been designed in such a way that successful candidates will undergo two hours of training per day, for two days a week, during a period of eight weeks.
This flexibility has been introduced to allow incumbents to be able to balance their everyday tasks with learning with minimal disruptions.
Limiting the daily sessions to two hours takes into consideration the cost of data which is still quite high within the region, making it possible for those enrolled to learn with less technical glitches of connectivity.
Prospective candidates for this course are invited and expected to submit their applications for admission before the June 30 deadline.
Those selected will be advised in time to commence lessons on July 15, 2020.
Only 20 participants on a first-come-first-served basis, involved or interested in sport for all from all the 10 AUSC Region 5 member countries will be offered an opportunity to enrol for this course. In response to the coronavirus-induced challenges bedevilling sport, the AUSC Region 5 is offering this course to the 2020 intake free of charge.
Speaking on this innovation, the CEO of AUSC Region 5, Stanley Mutoya said: “As part of our consciousness to the effects of the current pandemic, we have had to waiver the course fees and will, therefore, offer this course free of charge for the 2020 intake.
‘’This is our contribution to the cause of Sport For All as we know the impact it will make in the ordinary lives of our people”.
TAFISA Certified Leadership Courses in Sport for All were developed to train and qualify national Sport for All leaders around the globe.
The AUSC Region 5 aim to train a total of 200 sport for all practitioners per country in the next five years, giving a total of 2 000 graduands from all 10 member countries by 2025.
Priority will be given to the youth and teachers who will be expected to co-ordinate community sports programmes with the communities they reside.
