Redcliff pleads with residents to clear $38 million water bill
Redcliff, April 6, 2021 (New Ziana) – The Municipality of Redcliff has made a passionate appeal to residents and stakeholders to at least pay US$10 per household monthly in order to help it clear a $38 million
water bill owed to neighbouring Kwekwe.
In a public notice, the local authority warned that if the bill is not cleared, the dormitory town will not get adequate water supply from Kwekwe.
“The Municipality of Redcliff would like to inform its valued residents and stakeholders that the Kwekwe water bill has accumulated to $38,278,424.54 ZWL, therefore water supply has become erratic,” it said.
“In order to improve water supply, residents are encouraged to pay USD$10 per household towards the clearing of the bill.”
The municipality, which is eyeing city status by 2030, urged residents to co-operate on the issue.
In its current $1.6 billion budget, Redcliff set aside $375 million for the construction of a water reticulation plant as part of plans to ease water problems in the town, home to about 38 000 people.
Redcliff’s water problems emanated from the demise of Ziscosteel which used to pay the entire water bill to Kwekwe City Council.
