MADRID. — There was always going to be at least one video of Thibaut Courtois singing anti-Real Madrid songs hiding in one of the nooks and crannies of the internet.

But even after it was giving an airing on Wednesday it could not take the smile off the faces of most Madrid supporters at having signed one of the world’s best keepers, in his prime, and for bargain price.

The footage that surfaced was from the 2013 Copa del Rey celebrations. Atletico Madrid had just beaten Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid 2-1 in the final and Courtois was basically telling their fans where they could stick it.

He was being egged on by Atletico Madrid players on the balcony of the town hall and looked a rather reluctant public speaker checking back with team-mates as to what exactly the words of the abusive ditty were. He was almost saved at one point from the embarrassment when it seemed the microphone had failed.

But all that is ancient history for Real Madrid who paraded the new “white giant” as Marca had on its cover on Wednesday, in-front of supporters yesterday. Courtois has long been on Madrid’s wanted list, Sportsmail identified him as their top target last season. He was always viewed as on a par with David de Gea but easier to get. — Mailonline.
