A 15-year-old Chitungwiza boy will receive three moderate strokes as corporal punishment for raping his seven-year-old cousin.

The teenager was convicted by Chitungwiza Regional Magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa yesterday.

Ms Chivasa set aside a two year sentence for five years on condition of good behaviour.

This was after the boy pleaded guilty.

Passing sentence Ms Chivasa said: “I have found you guilty of raping your own cousin who at her age is incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse. Because you still have to go to school, you shall receive three moderate strokes for committing the offence and desist from this bad behaviour.”

The court heard that on November 30 last year around 1300hours the victim’s mother caught the boy red-handed abusing her daughter.

In a separate case, two Zesa workers appeared in court yesterday facing allegations of illegally connecting electricity to some residents in Chitungwiza.

Blessing Musiiwa (47) and Edward Munemo (52) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Oliver Mudzongachiso facing fraud.

They were also charged for violating the Electricity (Amendment) Act by obstructing or deviating electricity current.

The pair pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to March                         22.

The prosecutor Edmond Ndambakuwa alleged that on November 29, 2017 at around 0830hours, Zesa, represented by Henry Maosa, received information from its network manager that some houses were illegally using electricity.

Mr Maosa went to house number 29549 and 29550 Unit B, Seke to investigate and this led to the arrest of  the pair. — Herald Reporter.
