describe the life and works of Abel Mubango, the chief executive of Peace Security (Pvt) Ltd.
It is his guiding principle.

Mr Mubango believes that the best way to cheer oneself is to try and cheer somebody else up. He says from childhood he has been driven by the desire to make people around him happy and that they feel safe all the time wherever they may be.
“One of my core desires is to see people happy.
“Wherever I am I just want to see people happy and enjoying themselves, so if I can give them security they then can afford to be happy,” he said.

This was probably his logic behind the establishment of Peace Security (Pvt) Ltd in February 2002.
“Going into the security business was by divine revelation. I was discussing with my wife one day on how we should establish a business of our own, rather than remain in the rut of formal employment.

“We talked about what would bring us the greatest happiness and the issue of being able to make the world more secure took centre stage,” he said.
Peace Security provides a wide range of security services including: security guards, investigations, undercover services, security audits, cash-in-transit and closed circuit TV systems.
Last year, the company received an ISO 9001: 2008 certification by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe, perhaps a testament to the man’s belief in the value of quality.
“We decided to embark on the ISO 9001: 2008 standard as part of our value enhancing initiatives. The project has us to increase value to our services and to continually improve our performance.”

Mr Mubango believes in hard work, having clear goals and being passionate about everything and everyone.
“I have been a person who is very disciplined, so when one sets their goals it does not matter what comes along the way, you just have to make sure you are pursuing them till you get the end result,” he said.
Mr Mubango added that in life one has to be an opportunist in terms of seeing things: how they are possible and how they are impossible but not necessarily giving up if they stand their ground.

“Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want,” he said.
Born in 1959 in Gutu during a time, he says, when there were “still few people on the planet”, he is the fourth born in a family of six.

Mr Mubango grew up in Gutu where he did his primary education before proceeding to Highfield Secondary School between 1974 and 1977.
It is indeed a mark of destiny when destiny overtakes one’s plans. Having initially chosen a career in the financial services sector and later running a security company is one such example.
Soon after completing his O-Level he started working for Barclays Bank as a clerk, later rising through the ranks to become an executive director of the company. After Barclays, Mr Mubango joined

CFX Bank also as an executive director up until the time he began Peace Security.
Having started working at such a young age this did not stop him from pursuing his studies. He wrote his A-levels via correspondence at a local college.

Mr Mubango holds several qualifications, including a Diploma in Banking with the Institute of Bankers (SA), Diploma in Administration and Commerce from the Institute of Administration and Commerce (SA) and Masters in Business Administration from Manchester University (UK).

He gets his inspiration from Mr PJ Meyer and his favourite quote from the man is “Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon must inevitably come to pass”.

It is these words that help him face each day and knowing that he will conquer anything that comes his way.
He derives his inspiration from Mr Strive Masiyiwa who had the courage and determination to get Econet to where it is today.

Looking at the current economic situation in the country Mr Mubango says it is improving which is the most encouraging thing due to the stability of the inflation than it was a decade ago.
Mr Mubango added that when it comes to competition due to the number of security companies that have been established as Peace Security they try to focus on providing their customers with services that meet their expectations.

“The competition is very stiff but we try to focus on giving our customers the services that meets their expectations, so if one of our customers is approached by a
competitor, because of the value addition we know that our customers will forever remain loyal to our services,” he said.

Mr Mubango urges for the establishment of strong local brands.
“One has to develop the brand locally and make sure that it is supported with the quality and services so that it becomes a distinguishable brand.

“Then the publicity that goes around it so if one has to go across the border you will be taking with you a brand that is already established,” he said.
Looking into the future, Mr Mubango sees Peace Security growing locally and regionally in terms of customers and expanding their product range that they are currently offering.

Abel is married to Annie and they have three children together.
He greatly appreciates the support that he has received from his family especially his wife Annie in encouraging to get out of his comfort
zone and setting up the security company.
