CONSTRUCTION of the Harare Hippodrome Conference Centre in Braeside is now 60 percent complete, with the project expected to be completed by end of year.

The multi-million-dollar project, which will have a carrying capacity of 6 400 people making it the largest facility in the country, is led by Ambassador-At-Large Prophet Uebert Angel and his partners.

Mr Tanaka Muswerakuenda, civil engineer at Kingswood Contracting, said they are now 60 percent complete.

“We started this project in March this year and we are now 60 percent complete. We are expecting to finish the shell in November this year.

“The building should be in use by December and we are looking to handover a complete project in March next year,” he said.

Mr Muswerakuenda said they were ahead of schedule in terms of constructing the building regardless of the Covid-19 regulations and they will meet the deadline.

The project has created employment for over 150 people, including those from the community, and on completion, Harare residents and the nation at large, will benefit from the conference centre.

Mr Muswerakuenda said the Hippodrome would become the biggest conference centre in Zimbabwe.

“It will have rooms, coffee-shop and other complementing spaces that will serve different purposes like the gym and saloon among others,” he said.

The new conference centre is expected to boost Zimbabwe’s competitiveness as a prime tourism destination and enable it to host mega meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
