President Mugabe yesterday summoned Parliament to an extraordinary sitting meant to conduct special business today in which both the National Assembly and Senate members are required to attend.

Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda, in a statement, implored all Members of Parliament to attend.

“The Clerk of Parliament, Mr K.M Chokuda would like to inform all Members of Parliament that pursuant to section 110 (2) (c ) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Cde R.G Mugabe has summoned Parliament to an extraordinary sitting to conduct special business. Parliament will meet at 1400 hours in the National Assembly chamber,” said Mr Chokuda.

“Thus, all Members of Parliament must be in their respective Chambers by 1400hours, Wednesday, 16 September 2015.”

When Parliament adjourned yesterday, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also leader of Government Business in the House had said the next sitting would be on September 22, 2015.

When contacted, Mr Chokuda declined to give details relating to the nature of the business.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson, Mr George Charamba, said the speech delivered by the Head of State and Government and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces yesterday had been set aside following a mix-up of his speech resulting in reading of a wrong speech.

In a statement last night, Mr Charamba said corrective measures were being made to address the anomaly.

“Today’s address by His Excellency the President, Cde R.G Mugabe, to Parliament has been set aside following a last minute technical mix up of texts. Measures are already under way to ensure the correct speech is presented to Parliament for its consideration. The error is sincerely regretted,” Mr Charamba said.

There was a mix up of President’s speech, which resulted in President Mugabe delivering the State of the Nation Address that he delivered to Parliament on August 25, 2015.

President Mugabe was expected to address the official opening of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament, where he was expected to set the legislative agenda for the coming Session.

The legislative agenda sets out the various Bills that would be tabled during the Session among other business of the House.

See correct speech on President Mugabe opening Parliament on page 6, the Speech is set to be tabled in Parliament today.
