President Mnangagwa has promoted two senior Air Force of Zimbabwe officers to the rank of Group Captains with effect from 10 August this year.

Speaking during the conferment of the ranks, AFZ Commander Air Marshal Elson Moyo said the two Group Captains, Fidelis Munyoro and Joseph Maseko, were promoted in line with the provisions of the Defence Act.

“In terms of section 15(1)(B) of the Defence Act, Chapter 11:02, the President may on the advice of the Minister, acting on the recommendation of the commander, promote or temporarily appoint an officer to a higher rank,” he said.

Air Marshal Moyo said the two officers deserved to be promoted to higher ranks considering their hard work.

He said promotions in the AFZ were largely based on merits of their leadership in previous ranks.

“Promotions policy in the Air Force of Zimbabwe is largely based on merit, you would have been satisfied those in command and being capable of taking up their rank and you should also be aware that your subordinates are going to look upon you for guidance,” said Air Marshal Moyo.

He said promotions came with a lot of responsibilities which were expected during the discharge of the duties in the AFZ.

Air Marshal Moyo urged the newly promoted officers to work hard in their new appointments in order to produce best results.

“The offices you are going to occupy are very demanding and we expect results from both of you, and you are not going to disappoint those who have considered your promotions to new ranks,” he said.

“I am hoping that as you grow up in the system, you are also looking forward to further promotion. The sky is the limit.”

Air Marshal Moyo said the AFZ was a highly professional organisation which demanded professionalism.

“Do not disappoint the Commander-in-Chief, (President Mnangagwa) who has seen it necessary to give these ranks,” he  said.

In an interview soon after the conferment of the ranks, Group Captain Munyoro said he was happy for the new appointment and pledged to be loyal during the discharge of his duties.

“I am very happy for this achievement, I promise to be honesty and loyal as well as producing the best results,” he said.
