A vehicle that was stolen during an armed robbery in Banket on Tuesday morning was recovered on Friday along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu highway.
The vehicle, a Mazda SDX double cab (AAX 8072), was used by armed robbers to carry various items, including groceries, a Samsung TV set, an Acer laptop and an Open View decoder that had been stolen from a local teacher during the wee hours of September 10.
Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed that the vehicle has been recovered, adding that it is intact.
“I can confirm that the vehicle that was stolen last week in Banket was recovered on Friday along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu road. We are still hunting for the culprits,” he said.
According to the police, some robbers went to a house in Banket’s Kuwadzana township at around 3am and forced their way into a teacher’s bedroom.
This was after a robbery at Eureka Junior School in the same town where they blew up two safes and got away with US$80 and a few grocery items.
Police said the robbers were armed with a rifle, a pistol and two knives. They tied the teacher’s hands and demanded cash from her as they assaulted her with a rifle butt.
She handed over US$1 600.
The robbers then entered a room where another complainant was sleeping, tied his hands with ropes, and threatened to kill him as they demanded more cash and valuables.
