Plaxedes gears for ‘Urban Unplugged’

The brainchild of Plaxedes, “Urban Unplugged” is aimed at bringing live urban music to the people.

Plaxedes, who is affectionately known as the “Queen of Ballad”, will share the stage with Sanii Makhalima, her one-time label mate and Ngoni Kambarami.
From the outset the line-up comprises some of the big names who made it in urban music, but this time they are playing live in an intimate set-up.

There is good ambience including state-of-the-art lighting and proper stage. The concept behind holding such shows is it to provide quality performances and different performing artistes on one stage for the enjoyment of the audiences.

All the three artistes are not newcomers, but are some of the popular names who wowed audiences since their arrival on the mainstream music scene.
Plaxedes herself is a versatile performer gifted with a soulful voice.

Currently riding high with her comeback album simply titled “Brighter Day” that features the hit singles “Love You Better” and “Huya Ndikutaridze”, the “Wadarireyi” singer has been busy staging shows at corporate level.

She recently delighted audiences at the launch of the New Range Rover and then at Cresta.
Her repertoire is what makes her appeal to a wider audience as she effortlessly blends with the groove. So far, it has been good for her and while she doesn’t feature at public performances, she has earned the respect of the corporate world through singing her own compositions.

“Brighter Day”, released under her new record label La Cede International, announced her return after she took a sabbatical to focus on family and complete her Masters in Business Administration.

However, despite all that, music is an inborn thing and something she does so well at any given time.
Already the two videos of the songs “Huya Ndikutaridze” and “Love You Better” are doing well on the airwaves with one of her videos featuring on Channel O.

The video, shot in South Africa, has plenty to enjoy with the diva appearing in what seems to be tropical rain forest singing her way into the sunset.
Stunning is perhaps the best word to describe the video and as she continues in that direction she could be heading for a top accolade this year.
The song is a departure from her previous recordings as it is a fusion of traditional, afro-jazz and soul music.

However, what has not changed on the new release is the soul and ballad type of music that’s synonymous with Plaxedes.
Featured on the album are David Sengwayo, vocalists Rumbidzai Sengwayo and Petronella Gobvu as well as Tino Dambaneunga among others.
Plaxedes, a former member of the famed Ruvhuvhuto Sisters together with the late Jackie Madondo and Ivy Kombo-Kasi, has four other albums to her credit.

Her debut, “Tisaparadzane”, put her in the spotlight followed by “Kamumhanzi”, “Sentiments” and “Full Circle”, which did well on the charts.
It will be interesting to see how the other two artistes Sanii and Ngoni will fair at the show. Sanii is currently basking in the glory of his new single “Kubhaguja”, a love song which has taken the music scene by storm.

When it comes to vocal clarity Sanii pulls it through nicely.
Do you still remember his hit which was then turned into Star Brite theme song featuring a host of youthful artistes including Trevor Dongo?
