Pinewood School’s big day

headmasters from various schools.

Students took the opportunity to outshine each other in music, public speaking and  drama, mesmerising parents and guests who attended the event.
The Zimbabwe Prison Band provided entertainment and were ably supported by the popular kwaito dance outfit, Magesh, who proved that dancing is indeed in their blood.

Not to be left out was student’s favourite artiste, Shinsoman, who belted out some of his popular tunes and momentarily turned the place into a dancehall gig when students joined him in singing and dancing.

Probably the major highlight of the day was the swearing in of prefects, who also appeared elated and overwhelmed with the responsibility that had been bestowed on them.
As part of their inauguration, they were given ere given red, gold and blue striped ties, different from the normal school ties which have red and white stripes.

In his acceptance speech, headboy Kenlum Chogugudza said he felt honoured to be leading his fellow students, adding that he would strive to give out his best.
“I feel greatly honoured and humbled to have such a post.

“Being a headboy does not mean you are a teacher, moving around and bullying others. I will make sure that my team leads by example.
“We have taken an oath and we should make use of the resources and time we have to improve our school,” he said.

Kenlum, an Upper Six arts student and outgoing junior councillor for Dzivarasekwa, wished the school many more years to come and said the years signified the strength of the school.

“As students we love our school very much. One thing which makes our school different is discipline,” he noted.
Speaking at the same occasion, guest of honour, Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council regional examinations manager Mrs Ellen Machingaidze, said students should work hard for a brighter future.

“I am happy that this school is developing not only its buildings but its pass rate is also amazing.
“Zimsec assessed the school and was pleased with the results, henceforth it has what we need  when it comes to education.

“So parents should not fear as the school is providing quality education,” she said.
Headmaster of the school Mr Nathaniel Madzivanyika said the chosen prefects should serve the school with honour.

“I know that when children are selected leaders at school they abuse the post. With Pinewood School, the case is different as the team went on three-day leadership training workshop at Resthaven Retreat Centre with their teachers. They were taught discipline, respect and grooming,” he said.

Mr Madzivanyika said his vision for the school had been fulfilled and will not rest when it comes to promoting education.
“I started this school a long time ago. Sure a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

“We are working on establishing a vocational training centre so that when our students complete their higher education they then go for tertiary education at the same premises,” he said.
