The Zimbabwe Germany Society in Milton Park, Harare, will today host a girl-child picnic dubbed ‘Colours of Her Future’, courtesy of Precious Children Arts Organisation (PICA) in partnership with Little Mr and Miss Africa Organisation.
In a statement, PICA founder, Chipo Bhasopo Chindungwe said today’s event was part of their belated International Day of the Girl Child commemorations, where girls aged between 10 and 18 will be honoured.
“The event aligns with this year’s global theme, ‘Elevating Girls’ Voices for Sustainable Development,’ and aims to create a safe, fun, and colourful space where girls can express themselves and dream big for the future.
“Girls from various schools and groups will participate, each group selecting a unique colour to represent through their outfits and a creative, colour-themed picnic basket.
“The event will feature inspiring power talks from influential women, fun activities like a colour parade, karaoke sessions, and interactive games, all fostering creativity, leadership, and connection among the girls,” said Chindungwe.
The director urged girls to show up in numbers for the celebrations.
“We want to celebrate the power, potential, and creativity of every girl attending.
“This is not just a day to reflect on the challenges girls face, but a moment to uplift their voices, inspire their dreams, and celebrate their future.”
“We would like to thank the Zimbabwe Germany Society, Prodairy, One World Theatre Company, EarGround Africa, and individual friends who have supported this year’s girls’ celebration.
“This event will provide a unique platform for girls to engage with role models, learn from each other, and showcase their talents in a supportive environment.”
