OUTGOING Junior Member of Parliament for Chiredzi West Takudzwa Clever yesterday handed over a borehole and goods worth over RTGS$19 000 to the less privileged children in his constituency.

Clever — an Upper 6 pupil at South Eastern College in the same constituency — handed over the borehole to villagers at Monyoroka Dip Tank Ward 27.

Clever said he was playing his part towards the realisation of the Vision 2030.

“It is my greatest pleasure to stand before you today presenting to the community something very important. Allow me your time to thank the Government of Zimbabwe under the new dispensation, for a wonderful Vision 2030 by His Excellency President Mnangagwa. Vision 2030 must stand as a challenge to every citizen of this country to ensure that he or she is playing a pivotal role towards achieving the vision,” he said.

“The vision seeks to see Zimbabwe becoming a middle income economy by the year 2030. What does this mean to all of us, especially those in positions of authority? It means that whether you are a headman, traditional chief and/or Government official elected by the people you have to devote your energy and influence towards improving the lives of our less privileged communities that includes children, orphans, widows and the  elderly.

He said the borehole donation was coming at a time when four villagers succumbed to a cholera outbreak last year.

“Some villagers were hard hit by the cholera epidemic, mostly due to unavailability of clean water. It is what touched my heart and soul when I asked myself, am I not the Honourable Junior Member of Parliament for this constituency, what is it that I can do to add value to people’s lives? It dawned on me that water is one of the most vital sources of life and decided to use my influence to lobby for the provision of safe drinking water to improve the lives of the people,” said  Clever.

He paid tribute to Chirdzi West legislator Cde Farai Musikavanhu for showing astute leadership and investing in education facilities at some schools within the constituency.

“Efforts to raise the standard of education were shown by my senior, Cde Musikavanhu, who constructed a state-of-the-art block at Batanai Primary School in Ward 28. Parents also played a part and put up a second block. Such efforts need to be complemented and thus I chose Mutirikwi Primary School and sourced some donations towards providing scholarships for 20 pupils that are in need of fees. I have since paid fees for the next remaining two terms for these pupils worth $1 600 and have also donated stationery and 20kg mealie meal to each of the 20 students,” he said.

“Remember that it is true to say, no one is taller than one who kneels down to pick up a child. Thus servant leadership, as propounded by President Mnangagwa.”

Cde Musikavanhu also attended the handover ceremony.
