CAPS United newboy Gabriel Nyoni has made a bold declaration that the Green Machine will be fighting for the league championship this season.

The 2016 champions had a poor campaign last season as they struggled to hit the heights that had powered them to their fifth league title in their history.

Makepekepe also defied the odds when they eliminated Congolese giants TP Mazembe from the CAF Champions League.

The same Mazembe side then went on to win the CAF Confederation Cup the same year. Nyoni was the vice-captain at Highlanders, who at times led the Bulawayo giants last season and impressed with his raw pace, professionalism and commitment to the team’s cause.

However, negotiations for a new deal at Bosso broke down and opened a window for him to move to the Green Machine, a club he played for during his days as a youth footballer.

And, the speed merchant appears to be enjoying his return to Makepekepe and a stay in the capital where, among other things, he will be advancing his education. He says, the target for his new team is the league championship.

“People find solace in sport,’’ he tweeted.

“Football brings communities together, it eases pain. With integrity, success is inevitable.

“We are preparing for nothing less than championship.’’

Nyoni attached a picture of himself and fellow forwards Phineas Bhamusi and Newman Sinchali as they took a rest after a day of intense preparations at the Green Machine.
