‘No jet fuel shortage’

Bulawayo Bureau
The World Food Programme has dismissed media reports that there is shortage of jet fuel in Zimbabwe which was said to be affecting air rescue operations in Chimanimani and Chipinge.

“We are aware of a news article alleging shortages of Jet A-1 fuel in Zimbabwe that would impact negatively on relief efforts.

“The information in this article is outdated,” head of donor relations, communications for WFP in Zimbabwe Ms Ashley Baxstrom, said yesterday.

Ms Baxstrom said WFP is working closely with the department of Civil Protection Unit (CPU) and local fuel suppliers for more supplies.

“WFP has secured adequate fuel supplies for its current operations. In the immediate aftermath of Cyclone Idai, ensuring access to fuel for relief operations was an urgent priority,” she said.

The WFP is targeting to feed more than 250 000 families affected by Cyclone Idai for the next three months or more.
