The first couple of gospel Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba and seven other musicians on Wednesday received Defensive Driving Course cards during the Heroes and Defence Forces Holidays road safety awareness campaign.
The couple and Leonard Zhakata, Somandla Ndebele, Albert Nyathi, Victor Kunonga, Chido Rachael Jera, Odrive Madzudzo and Tonderai Stephen Muzondo undertook the course and passed it in May.
The initiative was part of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe’s effort to continue rolling out measures to curb carnage on the roads.

Speaking during the launch of the Heroes and Defence Forces Holidays road safety awareness campaign, TSCZ board chairman Mr Kura Sibanda said artistes are influential in spreading the road safety message.
“We have run the first major DDC programme targeting key influencers, this time around focusing on musicians. Thus today, we are hand over the defensive driving cards to these musicians who undertook and passed course which in May this year,” said Mr Sibanda.

“We will continue to identify other interest groups and reach out to them accordingly,” he said.
He said over the past two years, the TSCZ has rolled out several new and innovative programmes to conscientise the public on safe road usage.

He said this year the council’s management is targeting to roll out the road safety awareness campaign in 50 schools.
“I am pleased to advise that all indications are that we will surpass that target,” he said.
