Zanu-PF candidate for Beitbridge East Constituency Cde Albert Nguluvhe yesterday told party supporters he has started working on addressing challenges associated with poor radio and television reception services, which have become perennial in the district.

He made the remarks during a campaign rally held at Dumba (Ward 15) that was also attended by the party’s aspiring candidate for Beitbridge West Constituency Cde Ruth Maboyi.

Cde Nguluvhe said communication had become a challenge for communities living more than 60km out of the border town.

“I am seized with the issue of poor reception of radio and television services in this district, where most people outside the border town rely on South Africa for such services,” he said.

“As your aspiring Member of Parliament I have started engaging the relevant authorities to ensure that the issue of radio and television network is attended to with the urgency it deserves.

“In addition, it is sad to note that there are some areas without mobile telephone communication services. This becomes a problem for many people in cases of emergencies.” Cde Nguluvhe said it was also important for luminaries from the district to pool resources together and set up a commercial radio station.

He said the radio station will help raise awareness on developmental and cultural issues around Beitbridge.

“On election day let’s go out in numbers and vote for Zanu-PF candidates and President Mnangagwa to ensure that there is continuity on Government policies, which are pro-people.

“We have adopted a servant type of leadership, which we must all embrace and implement most developmental projects based on consultation with communities,” he said. The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) recently announced that it was working on increasing radio and television services coverage from 55 percent to 80 percent countrywide under the digital migration programme.

BAZ technical director, Engineer Mathias Chakanyuka said during a digital migration outreach programme in Beitbridge recently that they were in the midst of upgrading broadcasting transmitters while in some cases they were constructing new ones.

Speaking during the same rally, Cde Maboyi challenged women to go out in their numbers to vote for Zanu-PF during the harmonised election.

She said women were the backbone of the country’s liberation struggle and the anchors of national economic development.

“This a new dispensation where as women we need to play a leading role in championing development from local government to national level.

“We can only achieve our target if we rally behind the Zanu-PF candidate to ensure that the party wins with a comfortable margin and continue serving you,” said Cde Maboyi.

In separate interviews villagers from Dumba, commended Cde Nguluvhe for being a hands on leader and his quick response to people’s issues.

“We are very grateful to our aspiring MP. He was been hands on most issues affecting people in this area.

“It is also pleasing to note that he has started working on addressing communication challenges. In cases of emergency we have to travel in donkey cart to Beitbridge for medical attention because we don’t have any other means of travelling,” said Mrs Idah Singo of Dumba.
