YOUNG people should be encouraged to use family planning methods to prevent early pregnancies, disease and marriages from unprotected sex, says a non-governmental organisation, Real Open Opportunities for Transformation Support (Roots) Trust.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Contraception Day commemorations held at Arcadia Farm recently Roots programmes officer Ms Tilda Kondo said they trying to understand the reasons for early marriages.

“Is it because the youths are failing to access contraceptives? Our main goal is to end child marriages, so we are holding World Contraception Day in Mashonaland Central since it is the number one cause of child marriages. We have realised that in most cases early marriages are a result of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sex. While we are celebrating World Contraception Day, we are trying to enlighten young people on family planning methods they can use,” she said.
