A NON-Governmental Organisation Goal Zimbabwe has pledged to assist over 100 000 people in Cyclone Idai-affected areas in Chipinge as a way of complementing Government efforts.

The cyclone affected Chipinge and Chimanimani in March this year destroying food stocks, infrastructure and killing hundreds of people.

Goal Zimbabwe’s emergency coordinator Mr Alghali Ismail Ishag Adam said they were working closely with the World Food Programme (WFP).

“At the moment the organisation is targeting to assist 100 000 households given the high drought risk in Chipinge.

‘‘We are also targeting incremental food support across the entire district.

“Goal and WFP have been carrying out food aid programmes since the aftermath of Cyclone Idai disaster and going forward we aim to assist more people given the drought ahead.

“As an organisation we are always going to be here to complement Government in fighting hunger and poverty,” he said.
