The National Association of Show Societies in Zimbabwe has endorsed the newly-elected Kadoma Agricultural Show substantive executive committee ahead of this year’s show to be held next month.

The newly-elected executive comprises Mr Patson Madera as chairperson, Mr Crispen Dirawo (vice chairman), Talent Garikai (secretary), Gift Ndlovu (vice secretary) and Luckson Munyai (treasurer).

Committee members are Hardlife Mandava, Ackim Mhene, Leocardia Dube and Theresa Chingale.

The executive takes over from the interim committee that was dissolved by the Kadoma Agricultural Show society life members at an extra ordinary meeting held in Kadoma last week.

This followed allegations of misappropriation of funds, gross negligence and unconstitutional amendment of the Show society constitution levelled at the interim committee.

The Herald is informed the issues were reported at the Kadoma Central Police and were recorded under reference numbers RRB 3847882 and CR190/07/19.

Addressing the incoming substantive executive on Sunday, National Association of Show Societies in Zimbabwe chairperson Mr Godfrey Mavankeni encouraged the leadership to emulate other show societies to breathe life into the Kadoma Agricultural Show.

“During his official opening speech during this year’s Zimbabwe Agricultural Show President Mnangagwa called on show societies to move away from the usual one day event to 365 day events. You should come up with programmes that keep the show alive throughout the year like what is happening at the Exhibition Park in Harare and at the ZITF in Bulawayo,” he said.

“We are encouraging you to improve the infrastructure and make sure that there is development throughout the year. The show society is for the people of Kadoma and Mashonaland West Province, what is needed is for us to move forward with the goal of this leadership. The minister of state has given us a mandate to solve the problems in Kadoma and push for development in this city.”

National Association of show societies in Zimbabwe vice chairperson Mr Augustine Mupakurirwa called for unity among the leadership.

“To the incoming leadership I have to tell you that you should be united and working towards the revival of our show society. Do not accept your positions with the intention of accessing the public funds. Do it for the good of Kadoma and for the good of our nation,” he said.

Development Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) board member for Mashonaland West Mr Francis Khondanani said the development of the country’s economy was more important than the positions in the show society.
