NEWLY-elected Mutare Rural District Council chairperson, Councillor Itai Katsaruware has vowed to improve service provision and infrastructural development, which is in line with the President’s vision to have a middle class economy by 2030.

Cllr Katsaruware, who won in Mutare South Ward 7, said he was looking forward to equal distribution of resources in the district, which boasts of diamond fields and gold.

“We are looking forward to an equitable distribution of resources in the district for every member of the community to benefit,” he said.

“I am sure there were a lot of things, which were already in the pipeline before I assumed the council chair’s position. We want to look into those things and see how best we can carry them forward. What is important is to integrate the minds of all councillors and the supporting staff so that we come up with solutions that address our economic challenges.”

Cllr Katsaruware said as Mutare RDC, they were looking forward to a boost in infrastructural development and improved service provision.

He said he was also looking forward to placing Mutare RDC among the best rural local authorities in the country.

“We want to be one of the best and I am very certain that we will be the best among the country’s local authorities. We are based in the Zimunya-Marange area where there are resources and if we utilise them, nothing will stop us from being the best in service provision,” he said.

Meanwhile, re-elected Buhera RDC chairperson Cllr Ngoni Musakaruka said he would work out how best they can utilise the water bodies they have in their area. Cllr Musakaruka said they wanted to utilise the water reservoirs and expand hectarage of irrigable land.

“We will look into how best we can utilise the water bodies we have, for instance, Marowanyati Dam. We want to expand the irrigable land. We will look into education, water and sanitation, health and infrastructure development and road rehabilitation. It is also our plan to look at our public institutions and map ways of developing them,” he said.

Cllr Musakaruka said they were also looking at ways of improving their revenue depth within Buhera.

He said his plans were to find ways of developing infrastructure at Murambinda and Birchenough Bridge growth points.

“We need to improve service provision and that can be achieved through increasing the depth of our revenue. We want development as outlined in our President’s vision,” he said.
