THE trial of Clark Clever Makoni and Beverly Aisha Ndonda Makoni, accused of defrauding former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono’s company, Galwex Investments, of ZWL$137 million, resumed this week with new facts arising in the matter.

The State led evidence from its second witness, who is a principal examiner from the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property, Mrs Lindsay Musukutwa.

She told the court that records filed at their offices, the Certificate of Incorporation and the CR14 of Galwex, showed that the directors of the company have not changed since 2009 and are still Ayoob Omar and Mohamed Hussein Omar.

Prosecutor Ms Heather Muwokoto applied for the tendering of the two documents into record and no objections were raised by the defence counsel.

Ms Muwokoto further asked Mrs Musukutwa if there was a way that a person could change the directorship of a company in Mutare, but that information is not updated in their main system in Harare and she said it was impossible.

She added that they do not have an office in Mutare.

Defence lawyer Mr Admire Rubaya asked if they had any CR14 that showed that the company directors were now the Makonis and the answer was no.

She added that their office cannot authenticate a document, in this case, the forged CR14 of Galwex, which they did not originate.

The trial was adjourned to December 17.

According to the State, in July 2017, the complainant engaged the services of the accused persons to manage Valley Lodge, among other properties.
