Yotamu Chigwada, who won the by-election for Chitungwiza Ward 24 last month on an MDC-Alliance ticket, was sworn into office yesterday at the council chambers.

Clr Chigwada was sworn in by the town clerk Dr George Makunde in the presence of District Administrator Mrs Zivanai Chisango.

Dr Makunde urged the new councillor to execute his duties as expected and bring development to the community and the local authority.

“I hope that you know and understand that you have been chosen by the people to represent their interests and not your own through tackling services delivery issues affecting them.

“As such, you have become a representative of Chitungwiza Municipality as a whole not your ward only because what affects your people can also affected others in surrounding areas. It means that you should do your best to solve problems in your ward and bring development to our town,” he said.

In an interview after the ceremony Clr Chigwada said he would strive to serve the interests of the residents.

“I am honoured to be leading Ward 24 residents and in our area we have three major issues affecting people, that is inconsistent water supply, sewer bursts and inconsistent refuse collection.

“I will do my best to ensure that these issues are addressed and I shall establish ward committees that I will be working with soon,” he said.
