PREMIERSHIP newboys Nichrut’s decent start has charmed the Shurugwi community after their supporters and local business persons made some donations to the team ahead of their league match against struggling ZPC Kariba at Ascot tomorrow.

Coach John Nyikadzino and his charges became the first team from Shurugwi to play top-flight football and their fans have responded by following them, wherever they go, to cheer them against the league’s big guns.

They have five points in as many matches. The run has charmed their fans, who contributed money to purchase a kit for the team.

Two business people bought a kit and tracksuits for the team and some pledged a number of performance-based bonuses at a function at Nichrut Lodge in Shurugwi on Wednesday night.

Nyikadzino thanked the supporters for their unwavering support.

“The supporters and the people of Shurugwi have been very supportive to the team and we are really grateful and we will do our best to make them proud,” he said.

“ZPC Kariba has not been getting positive results of late, but that does not mean they are a bad team, they are a good team which has been just unfortunate.

“We have not won our previous games and we want to start winning matches, but it will not be easy, especially playing against a team like ZPC Kariba.

“It will be a good game of football because all the teams want to win and I am urging supporters to come in their numbers and enjoy the game,” said Nyikadzino.

ZPC Kariba have struggled this season under coach Godfrey Tamirepi, with four defeats and a draw in the opening five matches.
