Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) efforts to improve water and sanitation at Chikurubi Maximum Prison has paid dividends following the commissioning and handover of a borehole at the Canine School (Dog Section) by The Salvation Army Chief Secretary Colonel Tineyi Mambo recently.

Funds for the 60 metres deep-borehole were provided by the church’s Men’s Ministries Department.

Colonel Mambo thanked the Men’s Ministries for responding to a call to assist the Prison Service.

“I would like to commend the Men’s Ministries for responding to a call to assist the ZPCS with a borehole. I am glad to tell you that this borehole drilling project is part of the Prison Fellowship pillar of the Men’s Ministries,” said Colonel Mambo.

Territorial Men’s Ministries Secretary Major Kumbirayi Kazembe said the Men’s Ministries Prison Fellowship seeks to collaborate with the ZPCS to promote the successful rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.

“Among other goals, we also seek to build a strong relationship between God and lives of those who are in prison through evangelism. The Men’s Ministries provide psycho-social, moral and spiritual support to inmates, officers and their dependants. We are also involved in building trust and mend broken relationships between the offender and the offended community through restorative justice,” said Major Kazembe.

ZPCS Chaplain Benson Mhaka expressed gratitude to The Salvation Army saying it has indeed proved that it’s a Church living its biblical mandate on Mathew 25: 36: “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Chief Secretary Col Mambo was accompanied by the secretary for Programme Administration Lieutnant Colonel Sipho Mbangwa, Major Kazembe, Territorial Public Relations Secretary Major Tapera Foroma, Territorial Youth Secretary Major Elvis Chimombe, Assistant Financial Secretary Captain Edward Wunganai and Assistant Property Secretary Captain Edwin Ndoro.
