Government this afternoon re-opened a 5km stretch of Nemakonde Way, formerly Lomagundi Road, that was under construction, to traffic.

The 5km stretches from the intersection of Second Street Extension to Harare Drive. The road is now complete up to Westgate Traffic Circle.

Motorists and residents hailed the Government for the work done on the roads.

Transport and infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, his deputy Joshua Sacco, Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution Charles Tawengwa, Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport Infrastructural Development Cde Knowledge Kaitano and other senior Government officials were on the ground to open the stretch that also passes through Greencroft Shopping Centre, among other areas.

Motorists and residents hailed Government for the work done on the roads.

A local contractor, Fossil Contracting, was engaged to do the work and is expected to continue working on the Harare-Chirundu Highway up to Mapinga.

In an interview, Minister Mhona said Government will continue rehabilitating roads countrywide to ensure that they leave no place behind.

He said the programme will continue until all roads are rehabilitated countrywide.

Last week, the Government also re-opened a 6,5km stretch along Second Street Extension to traffic after its reconstruction.

Local contractors Fossil Contracting and Exodus and Company were contracted to do the work.

Fossil started reconstructing the road from the intersection of Cork Road up to Nemakonde Way (2,8 km), while Exodus and Company were working on the 3,7 kilometre stretch running from Nemakonde Way to Harare Drive.
