THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe will meet at their headquarters in Gweru on Saturday for their annual general meeting where they will deliberate on various issues concerning the sport.

Among the topical issues to be discussed is the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their 2021 season, confirmation of the 2022 calendar, the association’s development programme as well as the Commissions and their terms of reference.

NAAZ president Tendai Tagara said it has been a difficult year with disruptions to activities due to the pandemic.

“We missed meaningful development programmes, all was firefighting, chasing lockdowns requirements, banishing from training, and no group training for coaches and athletes.

“The May-July lock down was the worst for World Junior Championships athletes and the Region Five athletes because it meant completely no training, no Nash and Naph competitions means the backbone of athletics is affected from cadets, youths and juniors.

“This did not only affect those based home even those in USA and South Africa.”

The meeting will also look at constitutional reviews, strategic plan review, and the 2022 plans for World Championships, Africa Seniors and juniors competitions as well as the relations with Naph and Nash as the backbone for youth and junior development.
