WARRIORS’ captain, Knowledge Musona, was left a frustrated man after his team’s lifeless home performance, in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against South Africa, at the National Sports Stadium, yesterday.

The hosts they hardly tested the visitors’ goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, throughout the entire 90 minutes, in a match which ended in a goalless draw.

The SuperSport United goalkeeper was only tested when he produced a stunning near post save, to send Khama Billiat’s vicious shot, over the bar.

The out-of-sorts Warriors never shifted into gear, struggled to up the tempo and barely looked hungry for a win.

Their passing was horrific, they failed to execute the very basics of the game, playing to the South African tune who, from the first whistle, seemed to be looking for a draw.

Musona’s body language, coming for the post-match press briefing, summed it up — a leader who was not happy with what his team produced.

“I personally didn’t speak, you know when you are coming out of the game frustrated that you didn’t win, sometimes you might end up saying the wrong things,’’ he said.

“But, I think we still have time together.

“I think we just needed time for everyone to calm down, so that we can go back to the drawing board, and see what we can do.

“As the captain of the team, I think I have to say something.

“We know the country is not happy. We know Zimbabweans don’t want us to lose points. They expect a win but there are three results in a game.

“Today, we took a draw and we take it from here to the next game.”

He said it’s normal, in football, for things not to go according to plan.

“I think it’s normal, at times, to miss some passes, no one is perfect so, sometimes, it is frustrating,’’ he said.

“For us, sometimes, it seems to be too easy just making stray passes.

“We need to work on that, it is something that has to be an advantage, to keep the ball.

“If you don’t keep possession, there is no way that you will go forward, there is no way that you are going to hurt the opponents or to make them run.

“I think we still have five games, we look to the next game and try to improve on what we did wrong today (yesterday).

“The team was not bad, I think we did not create enough chances to score goals, it is something that we can work on, try to improve.”

The Warriors know they have played a number of better games, than this one, when they just could not click into a rhythm.
