Musicians celebrate President’s birthday Alick Macheso

Several artistes will join the nation tonight in celebrating President Mugabe’s 91st birthday when they perform at the fundraising gala that will be held at City Sports Centre. The show which is meant to raise funds for next week’s 21st Movement celebrations to be held in Victoria Falls on Saturday, will see artistes from different genres performing.

Musicians including Jah Prayzah, Alick Macheso, Suluman and Tryson Chimbetu, Somandla Ndebele, Mathias Mhere, Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz, Tocky Vibes, Peter Moyo, Winky D, Cde Chinx and Leonard Zhakata among others are set to perform at the event.

A lot is expected at the show as artistes fight for supremacy.

Jah Prayzah will be sampling news songs from his coming album that will be released on May 22.

Speaking through her manageress Filda Muchabaiwa, the musician said they were ready for the gala.

“We are more than ready as we will be sampling new songs from our coming album as we celebrate the birthday of President Mugabe,” she said.

He has been sampling some of the songs at the his shows and “Gamba”, and “Jerusalem” have been well received by his legion of fans.

On the other hand sungura ace Macheso who is under pressure to release new stuff is expected to deliver his old hits such as “Madhawu”, “Tafadzwa”, “Pertunia” and “Baba na Mai” among others.

This will be Tryson’s major public appearance this year as he has been playing in small venues.

The dendera musician is expected to deliver a top notch performance.

Winky D who released a number of singles during the beginning of this year will lead his young stars including Tocky Vybes, Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz to thrill fans with their songs.

Zhakata who is basking in glory with his new album “Zvangu Zvaita” is billed top perform at the event that is expected to draw huge crowds.

Zhakata said he is looking forward to a big day.

“We are happy to be part of this noble event. We will do our best to ensure that fans get good entertainment. We have a number of new things that we will display in our choreography. It is a big day for us as we wish our President a happy birthday and prepare for the bigger celebrations to come,” said Zhakata.

Patson Chimbodza of Chipaz promotions who has been asked to put together the show said they have laid the ground for the fundraising gala.

“We have done our part and we are encouraging people to come in their numbers to celebrate,” said Chimbodza.

He said all artistes have confirmed their participation at the event that is likely to attract thousands of people.

“As I speak now all artistes have their confirmation letters and they are preparing to show their prowess to the public,” he said.

For only $3 fans are expected to dance all the night celebrating the President’s birthday.

Zanu PF officials are expected to grace the event. Last year the event was held at Gwanzura stadium and thousands of people came and danced the night away.
