MUSHOWANI Stars managed to maintain their six-point lead ahead of ZRP FC in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League when they collected maximum points against PAM United at Muriel Mine where they won 1-0 at the weekend.

The Madziva-based side were given the lead by last year’s Soccer Star of the Year contender Sunny Sawari in the 42nd minute.

Levison Selous’s side now need to win their next two matches to wrap up the championship as second-placed ZRP FC, who are on 57 points, can only finish on 69 points if they win their remaining four matches.

Mushowani Stars team manager Takunda Mutandiri believes they are going towards the right direction and will remain focused for their next encounters.

“I think we are going in the right direction the win is very important to us as it keeps us in control of the championship.

“We will continue to work hard and ensure that we win our next two games which will take our points tally to 68. It has been long since we have been in the Northern Region and I think our time has finally come and everyone is happy for coach Selous and the team as a whole,” said Mutandiri.

In the Southern Region, Hwange, bounced back to the top-flight after they edged Tsholotsho 1-0 in their title decider on Saturday.

The two former Premiership sides went into the weekend fixtures battling for the sole ticket to represent the Southern Region and it was Chipangano who came out victorious.

Hwange becomes the third team to be promoted into the Premier Soccer League joining Manica Diamonds from the Eastern Region and Central Region’s TelOne who secured their ticket last week by beating army side Tongogara 1-0.

A clearly elated Hwange coach Nation Dube had a few words after the game.

“We are back and back with a bang. I am happy for the players and everyone involved in this noble Hwange FC project,” he said.
